Saint Lucia-Ottawa Association Newsletter - December 2017

Merry Christmas

It’s hard to believe that we are already preparing to celebrate the Christmas season and the close of another year. Your Executive Committee extends much gratitude for your support throughout the past year.

We began the year with a successful celebration of the 38th Independence Gala where we revealed a new logo and launched our key initiative for the year, Lunch & Learn 2017. We moved into the spring when we partnered with a number of community organizations to organize and co-host the 2017

Health & Wellness Seminar, an event focused on educating individuals of Afro-Caribbean heritage about the illnesses that typically challenge our community. We held our first Blocko in the summer, with thanks to Florence Aimable for opening her home to us. We joined our sister Association, the Saint Lucia Cultural Association of Montreal for a picnic at Voyageur

Provincial Park. We celebrated Saint Lucian language and culture, selling out tickets for Jounen Kweyol 2017. Thank you to those who attended our National Day Church Service, Reception and Children’s Holiday Party in December.

Over the past year we focused on being prominent in our communications on Facebook and the SLOA website and we began to have presence on Twitter. We were featured in Black Ottawa Scene, an online magazine, for a second time.

Thank you to all our volunteers, too numerous to mention. Please know how valued you all are. Our events are not possible without your commitment and dedication of time.

We said goodbye to some beautiful Saint Lucian’s this year, including past President Winnifred Edwards and Founding Member Theodora Morgan. May we continue to live out the spirit of their intentions for our community and this Association.

The SLOA Executive Committee wishes you and your family the very best of the holiday season. We have noticed and sincerely appreciate your attendance at our events, your voice at our meetings and our feedback. You have ensured we fulfilled the objectives we set for the past year.

We wish you health, happiness, the ability to be present in the life you have, the courage to work for the life you want and that you make something extraordinary out of the ordinary.

Wishing you, and all those close to you a joyous holiday season and happiness throughout the coming year.

Merry Christmas
